A remarkable sacrifice
61One game I played online
Okay so I played this game on the internet, with a 15 minute time control, after the game I spend 1,5 hour going over some variation just to see if the sac really hold up against some analysis. From what I found the sac was entirely sound, although when I played it I had not seen the whole thing, I just had the feeling that it was good, and I had looked at some lines so it wasn't entirely by feeling.
Critical position
The critical moment
The game is located www.chessvideos.tv/chess-game-replayer.php?id=59298 right there.
This is the position where I found the sacrifice, 22.Nf5+ and I have looked at several different moves for black and can't find any refutation.
For instance 22.-gxf5 23.Qg5+ Kh8 24.Qh6 fxe4 25.Ng5 Nf6 26.Rxe4! - This is devastating black has to defense here. 26.-Qxb2 27.Nxh7!! illustrates this fine. I also though that 26.-Bc8 was a nice idea for black except 27.Qxf8# 26.-Rg8 losses to 27.Nxf7#.
Now lets us look at some of the points that could make this sacrifice good on f5. In this game you see that black pieces didn't really connect to attack anything really well, his pieces simply didn't play well together.
Bad coordination
When a player has bad coordination between his pieces his often going to loose, as he can't use his pieces to the fullest potential.
In this game my opponent had placed a lot of his pieces away from his king, which is also a bad idea.
The ending after the complication
Okay he has one pawn for the exchange in the endgame, with a horrible pawn structure, The ending is easy to play for white, I won without to great difficulty, but perhaps I didn't play entirely perfect perhaps Rc2 should be played first.
However I went on with 30.Re7 Kg7 31.Rc7 Rxb2 where I played 32.Rc6, but perhaps 32.Ra1 would be better! His game sort of hangs a bit on that he maintains some pressure on the queenside, so if I eliminate his a-pawn I win.
This would be the position in which he resigned, and that with good reason there wasn't so much he could do when my a-pawn is running.
